When I was a teenage boy there was a very rich man who drove a Rolls Royce and lived in a huge mansion on Long Island Sound.  I asked my friend, who was the son of a rich man and a neighbor to the Rolls' owner, how had the super-rich man made his fortune?  His answer was revealing.  He said that rumor had it that he invented a folding hanger. 

Wow!  Such a simple idea applied millions of times each year to even a thousand customers, could yield great wealth, I thought.  One needn't, I mused, be an Edison or an Einstein to invent something like a hanger.  It only took an idea or twenty....and the requisite time and toil. 

But then reality and earning a living buried this potentially breakthrough realization in a deep grave.  I graduated from college and began working at getting a J(ust) O(ver) B(roke).  I never had an inkling that one can only become rich and independent by

1) Building skill- and knowledge-base through self-education investments.

2) Working as much on building one's character as one works on the daytime J.O.B.

3) Serving others.

4) Having a written list of short-, medium- and long-term goals which is always in a state of flux -- goals being amended or deleted as each is accomplished or a new one occurs to you.

5) Staying the course on a consistent and persistent level.

6) Becoming an unstoppable force who can ride out any storm.

7) Achieving financial independence and developing the means to insure it for a lifetime.
